The 2018 Yarra Yering Pinot Noir comes from some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the Yarra Valley. Four clones, small-batch fermentation and gentle French oak maturation create an elegant yet powerful wine with fine tannins and immediate appeal.
Vineyard
The vineyard contains a mixed planting of four Pinot Noir clones. The original planting was established in 1969, followed by replicated plantings in 1981 at the top of the slope and in 1984 at the bottom.
Winemaking
The grapes were hand-picked, chilled overnight and processed the following day through a sorting table. Gentle destemming into Yarra Yeringâs small fermenters was combined with some whole bunches for subtle stalk structure. The ferments were hand-plunged twice daily with minimal extraction before gentle pressing. The wine matured for 10 months in French oak, including 30% new oak.
Producer Tasting Notes
âBright crimson hue. Violet perfumed nose, mixed cherry fruits with a pinch of aniseed spice. Red cherry fruits explode on the front palate. A silky elegance combined with very fine tannin structure, both grape and oak tannin to produce a medium-bodied yet powerful style, the 2018 delivering a juicy fruit palate; immediately delicious.â
