The 2018 Henschke Hill of Grace Shiraz is an exceptional expression of one of Australia's most prestigious and collectible single-vineyard wines. Produced from the historic Hill of Grace vineyard in Eden Valley, this remarkable vintage combines extraordinary concentration, aromatic complexity and refined elegance with outstanding long-term ageing potential.
First produced in 1958, Hill of Grace is sourced from a remarkable vineyard opposite the historic Gnadenberg Lutheran Church, with some of its original Shiraz vines dating back to around 1860. Under the stewardship of fifth-generation winemaker Stephen Henschke and viticulturist Prue Henschke, the vineyard continues to produce wines of exceptional individuality and longevity.
The highly regarded 2018 vintage delivered excellent ripening conditions, producing a wine of remarkable fruit purity, concentration and structure.
The bouquet is intensely fragrant and layered, revealing blackberry, blackcurrant, dark cherry and ripe plum alongside violet, rose petals, black pepper, liquorice and exotic spice. Subtle notes of cedar, dark chocolate, dried herbs and earthy minerals contribute additional complexity.
The palate is powerful yet beautifully refined, displaying concentrated dark berry fruit, plum and savoury spice supported by exceptionally fine, silky tannins. Fresh acidity brings precision and balance, while seamlessly integrated oak contributes depth without overwhelming the vineyard's distinctive character.
The finish is exceptionally long and persistent, with lingering dark fruit, floral perfume, spice and mineral complexity. Despite its impressive concentration, the 2018 Hill of Grace retains the elegance, freshness and structural harmony that define this legendary Eden Valley Shiraz.
Already displaying remarkable complexity, this outstanding vintage has the structure and balance to develop gracefully over several decades, making it a compelling addition to any serious Australian wine collection.
