2017 St Hallett Old Block Shiraz 750ml

The 2017 St Hallett Old Block Shiraz is a refined and age-worthy expression of one of the Barossa’s most recognised old-vine Shiraz wines.

First produced in 1980, Old Block is St Hallett’s flagship Shiraz, sourced from carefully selected mature vineyards across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. The combination of vineyard sites brings together rich Barossa fruit with the fragrance, freshness and structure of higher-altitude Eden Valley vineyards.

The cooler 2017 vintage produced an elegant and beautifully balanced style of Shiraz, with excellent aromatic definition and freshness. The wine shows blackberry, black cherry and plum alongside violet, cracked pepper, dried herbs, dark chocolate and savoury spice.

The palate is concentrated yet refined, with dark berry fruit supported by fine tannins and fresh acidity. Savoury notes, subtle oak and spice add complexity, leading to a long and elegant finish.

With almost a decade of bottle development, the 2017 Old Block is entering an excellent drinking stage. Well-cellared bottles should continue to evolve, developing further notes of leather, earth, spice and mature fruit.
