Yalumba The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon & Shiraz 2016 Museum Release
The 2016 Yalumba The Signature is one of Australia's most iconic Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz blends, representing the pinnacle of winemaking at Australia's oldest family-owned winery. First released in 1962, The Signature is crafted only from the finest vineyard parcels and each vintage is dedicated to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the Yalumba story.
The exceptional 2016 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest releases of The Signature in recent decades. Ideal growing conditions across Barossa Valley and Coonawarra produced fruit of remarkable concentration, balance, and structure, resulting in a wine of extraordinary depth and longevity.
The blend combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, bringing together the strengths of two of Australia's greatest red varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon contributes cassis, structure, and elegance, while Shiraz provides richness, dark fruit depth, spice, and texture. Following fermentation, the wine was matured for 21 months in a selection of French, Hungarian, and American oak barrels, enhancing complexity while preserving fruit purity.
The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of blackcurrant, blackberry, dark plum, and black cherry, complemented by notes of cedar, cigar box, graphite, dark chocolate, liquorice, and baking spices. As the wine opens, hints of dried herbs, tobacco leaf, and savoury earth emerge, adding further complexity.
The palate is full-bodied and impeccably structured, delivering concentrated dark fruit flavours supported by fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity. Rich and powerful, yet remarkably refined, the wine displays exceptional balance and persistence. The seamless integration of fruit, oak, and tannin highlights why The Signature remains one of Australia's benchmark red wines.
Already highly impressive, the 2016 vintage remains youthful and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next two decades or more.
