96/100 — Halliday Wine Companion
“The flagship red coming off vines planted in 1968. It is majestic. A perfect interplay of fruit and savouriness and integrated oak imparts a self-assuredness. It's full-bodied but not a blockbuster. The tannins are ripe and exquisite, and the finish long.”
— Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
About This Wine
Majella GPL68 Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship red wine sourced from vines planted in 1968 on the Majella property in Coonawarra.
The wine was created in memory of George Patrick Lynn, patriarch of the Lynn family, whose sons Brian and Anthony established the vineyard and winery that became Majella Wines.
The wine shows a balance of fruit, savouriness, and integrated oak with ripe tannins and a long finish.
The Cabernet Sauvignon fruit begins fermentation in stainless steel fermenters before completing fermentation in new French oak hogsheads. The wine is then matured for a further 18 months in the same barrels, with only selected barrels chosen for GPL68.
