About This Wine
Founded in 1988 by Henri-Frédéric Roch, co-director of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti and grandson of Henri Leroy, Prieuré Roch was created from some of DRC’s choicest parcels in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine farms biodynamically with a philosophy centred on purity, minimal intervention and expression of site.
Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru comes from a vineyard described as strong, powerful, forthright and cleancut, with a Cistercian character and the “comfort of quarried stone”. The domaine uses natural yeasts, 100% whole-bunch fermentation, no fining, no filtration and only light sulphur. Vines are approximately 50 years old with very low yields and extremely limited production.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Pure fruit expression with clarity and depth.
Palate
A powerful and straightforward wine with firm structure, length and a clean, square Cistercian profile.
About the Winery
Prieuré Roch farms 14 hectares across major Burgundy sites, including Grand Crus Clos de Bèze and Clos de Vougeot and two monopoles: Clos de Corvée in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Les Clos Goillotte in Vosne-Romanée. The domaine harvests in several passes to achieve full fruit and phenolic ripeness, relying exclusively on natural yeasts and whole-bunch fermentation, with no fining or filtration.
The Clos de Vougeot parcel covers 0.62–0.64 hectares, planted in three phases: 1929, 1949 and 1969. The vineyard is not entirely original but remains a balanced planting. In the 1990s it faced challenges with overproduction and underripe grapes, and its conversion to organic farming was difficult, but it eventually became a vineyard the domaine managed to tame.
