The 2015 Craggy Range Sophia is a flagship Merlot-led blend from Hawke’s Bay, inspired by the great wines of Pomerol and Saint-Émilion. Sourced from the famed Gimblett Gravels, this vintage combines power, refinement, and precision, reflecting an outstanding growing season and Craggy Range’s mastery of Bordeaux varieties.

Vineyard and Winemaking

Fruit is drawn from low-yielding vines rooted in the free-draining gravel soils of the Gimblett Gravels, a site celebrated for producing structured yet elegant reds. Merlot forms the heart of the blend, supported by Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec. Each parcel was fermented separately before extended maturation in high-quality French oak barriques, building depth, aromatic complexity, and age-worthy structure.
