About This Wine
This rare bottling of 2014âs best casks was created just for Club Members by Tamdhuâs whiskymaking legend Sandy âBig Macâ McIntyre. Drawn from 100% Oloroso Sherry casks, first-fill European oak leads the charge with rich spiced fruitcake, toffee and milk chocolate, balanced against caramelised vanilla, raspberry jubes and a buttery nuttiness from the American oak Oloroso, with a small parcel of refill casks providing backbone and depth.
Tamdhu perfected their Sherry cask maturation under the watchful eye of former owners Macallan, gaining access to the exact same incredible Sherry cask sourcing. The distillery exclusively fills Sherry casks, relying on the nuances between first-fill European and American oak to build a complex, balanced dram.
After tasting the batch at a range of strengths, 50.7% ABV was selected as the perfect strength to express this single-vintage dramâs full fruity complexity, before bottling it with all natural colour and non-chill filtration.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Apricot pastries, all spice and nutmeg, fig jam with hazelnuts.
Palate: Bright berries and milk chocolate build into a long finish of gingerbread, dried fruit and more waves of chocolate.
About the Producer
Tucked away in the Speyside village of Knockando, Tamdhu Distillery takes its name from the Gaelic âlittle dark hillâ. Construction began in 1896, commissioned by a consortium led by William Grant and designed by celebrated distillery architect Charles Doig. In the 1990s, a decisive shift in wood policy saw Tamdhuâs spirit filled exclusively into ex-Sherry casks. After falling silent in 2010, the site was acquired by Ian MacLeod Distillers in 2011 and production recommenced in 2013.
