About This Wine

The Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is one of the most cult and influential Shiraz releases in modern Australian wine. Crafted by Rockford Wines in the Barossa Valley, it is made from 60 to 140-year-old dry-grown vines drawn from sub-regions across the Barossa — Kalimna, Ebenezer, Moppa Springs, the Eden Valley, and central Barossa — each contributing depth, structure, and Barossa typicity.

100% Shiraz. Hand-picked and processed using Rockford's heritage cellar equipment, much of which dates back over a century. The fruit is crushed through a traditional wooden crusher, fermented in open vats, and pressed in the basket press that gives the wine its name. Maturation is mainly in seasoned French and American oak for two years, preserving fruit character while building texture and complexity.

Now 25 years on, the 2001 Rockford Basket Press Shiraz is a fully mature expression of the cuvée, drinking with deep garnet colour, dark cherry, dark chocolate, savoury meaty notes, fine textured tannins, mid-palate richness, and a mineral, long finish.
