Overview
The 2014 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 750ml is one of the Southern Rhône's most distinguished and age-worthy red wines. Produced by the Perrin family from their historic estate at the northern edge of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, Beaucastel is renowned for its complexity, balance and distinctive use of all thirteen traditional grape varieties permitted in the appellation.
The 2014 vintage delivers a particularly elegant and approachable expression of Beaucastel, combining ripe red and dark fruit with Provençal herbs, spice and savoury complexity. Fine, silky tannins and refreshing acidity give the wine impressive balance, while the high proportion of Mourvèdre contributes structure, depth and long-term character.
Vintage & Winemaking
The 2014 growing season began with a mild, wet winter that provided strong water reserves and encouraged an early start to vine growth. Spring was comparatively dry, while July and August were cool and wet, slowing ripening and requiring careful vineyard management. Two weeks of warm, sunny weather at the beginning of September allowed the grapes to reach optimal maturity while retaining freshness and aromatic definition.
Each grape variety was harvested separately by hand. Mourvèdre and Syrah were vinified in wooden fermenters, while the other varieties were fermented in traditional concrete and glazed stoneware tanks. Following malolactic fermentation, the thirteen varieties were blended and matured for one year in large oak foudres before bottling.
