The 2013 Yarra Yering Dry Red No. 2 is a superb expression of Yarra Valley Shiraz in a refined, Rhône-inspired style, celebrated for its perfume, savoury complexity, and long-term ageing potential. Produced by the iconic Yarra Yering, Dry Red No. 2 is traditionally composed of Shiraz with a small inclusion of Viognier, a signature blend that delivers aromatic lift, finesse, and structural harmony.

The outstanding 2013 vintage in the Yarra Valley provided ideal conditions for slow, even ripening, resulting in wines of clarity, balance, and fine tannin structure. Fruit was sourced from low-yielding estate vines grown on ancient, low-fertility soils, reinforcing Yarra Yering’s hallmark style of elegance over power.

In the winery, fruit was handled with a restrained, traditional approach. Fermentation and extraction were carefully managed to preserve aromatics and texture, followed by maturation in French oak barrels, predominantly seasoned, to allow savoury complexity to develop without masking vineyard character.

The wine opens with expressive aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, and plum, layered with notes of white pepper, violet, dried herbs, and subtle earth. The palate is medium-bodied and finely detailed, showing bright acidity, supple yet persistent tannins, and a long, savoury finish. While already approachable with decanting, the wine retains the structure and freshness required for extended cellaring.
