Overview

The 2013 Best's Great Western Bin No. 0 Shiraz is an outstanding expression of old-vine Great Western Shiraz, combining vibrant red and black cherry fruit, aromatic spice and beautifully integrated tannins. Awarded 97 points by James Halliday, this medium-bodied wine displays remarkable elegance, balance and ageing potential, reflecting the exceptional character of the historic Concongella Vineyard.

Vintage

The 2013 growing season began with ideal conditions for budburst, followed by a warm spring that encouraged successful fruit set. Summer was predominantly warm and dry, with occasional hot spells moderated by adequate vine foliage. An earlier-than-normal harvest benefited from clear, warm days and cool nights, allowing the grapes to achieve excellent ripeness while retaining freshness and balance.

Producer Tasting Notes

Colour
Shiny dark red with a garnet hue.

Bouquet
A complex nose of red and blue fruits and an abundance of spice and floral notes including liquorice, white pepper, chai tea and rose petals.

Palate
Vibrant red fruit flavours on a medium bodied palate. The fine integrated tannins draw out the flavours for a long finish. A classic Bin 0 that will drink well now with food, but will benefit from some more time in bottle.

Cellaring
Will reward both short term to long term cellaring (20+years).
