97/100 — Falstaff · 2012 Vintage · Tasted: Jan 2022
“Again a translucent colour of rich garnet. The nose at first sends a note of earth, of stone, followed by a hint of caramel and supple plum. The palate is far gentler: there is creaminess but also a lovely balance and subtlety. It is the shape of the wine, the creamy frame that envelopes bright cherry and juicy, tart plum that defines this wine. The firmness of the tannins becomes apparent on the finish. A wonderfully elegant and super-fresh rendition of a powerful wine. The finish shows immense fruit, freshness and length.”

94/100 — Wine Enthusiast · 2012 Vintage · Tasted: Jan 2018
“Jim Barry's top wine and one of Clare Valley's most renowned, the 2012 doesn't disappoint. Enchanting, complex aromas of purple beets, mocha, strawberry leaf, raspberries, figs and dates continue on the palate, all cloaked in savory, powdery tannins and a structure that sets it up for many years of aging.”

About This Wine

Jim Barry The Armagh Shiraz is sourced from the renowned Armagh vineyard located two kilometres northwest of Clare township in the Clare Valley.

Recognised as one of Australia's most important red wines, The Armagh holds an Exceptional rating in Langton’s Classification of Australian Wine and is celebrated for its long cellaring potential.

The wine is produced from 100% Shiraz and matured in French and American oak.

The vineyard takes its name from the nearby hamlet of Armagh, established by Irish settlers in 1849.

Producer Notes

Deep crimson colour.

Aromas of roasted chestnut, truffle, blackberry pastille and bush garrigue.

The palate is balanced and complex with fresh blackberry pastille, dark chocolate, roasted chestnut, vanilla and fine tannins.

The finish is firm and persistent with graphite and aniseed notes, supported by impressive density and structure.
