Overview

Vasse Felix Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is a classic Margaret River Cabernet from one of the region's founding estates. The wine captures the hallmarks of Margaret River Cabernet: elegance, power, structure and long ageing potential.

The 2010 vintage is now a mature release with strong regional pedigree, built around Cabernet Sauvignon with supporting portions of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

Vineyard & Terroir

The Cabernet parcels are grown in Wilyabrup, the coastal mid-northern part of Margaret River. Ancient, well-drained ironstone gravel soils help produce Cabernet of strong varietal purity, structure and character.

Winemaking

Individual vineyard parcels were fermented separately using indigenous yeasts, with some macerations extending up to 34 days. Natural fermentation, extended maceration and traditional oxidative handling were used to define the personality of each site before blending.

The wine was matured in French oak barriques for 19 months, including 17 months in oak and two months blended in tank. The oak selection was 37% new French oak and 63% one- to four-year-old barrels.
