Magill Estate is Penfolds’ historic birthplace, established in 1844 on the outskirts of Adelaide. Today, it remains one of the world’s few urban single-vineyard estates and is dedicated exclusively to Shiraz. The Magill Estate Shiraz represents a bridge between traditional Penfolds richness and modern elegance, produced in limited quantities each year.

Vineyard
The vineyard lies at the foothills of Adelaide, planted on distinctive slate and quartz soils. This terroir contributes to the wine’s hallmark savoury complexity and mineral drive, setting it apart from the riper styles of Barossa and McLaren Vale. The fruit is handpicked, vinified on-site at the historic Magill winery, and matured in a combination of new French and American oak hogsheads.

Vintage
2010 was an exceptional vintage across South Australia. A mild, even growing season and a long ripening period produced grapes with pristine balance, concentrated flavours, and fine tannins. The 2010 Magill Estate Shiraz is widely considered one of the standout releases of the decade.

Tasting Notes
The 2010 Magill Estate Shiraz displays a deep crimson-purple hue. Aromas of blackberry, dark cherry, and plum are layered with licorice, espresso, cedar, and graphite. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with dense fruit concentration, savoury spice, and subtle oak integration. Fine tannins and fresh acidity frame a long, elegant finish, combining power and restraint.
