Awards, Ratings & Reviews

99/100 — Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
(2010 Vintage, Tasted: Mar 2024, Drink: 2028–2050)
“Elegance meshed with power, purity, and complexity says it all. This stunner, and it is stunning, offers a complex array of roses, kirsch, licorice, cherries, raspberries, and kirsch in the perfume. And the palate is even better with its endless layers of vibrant, opulent, deep, red fruits, spice, and pepper herbs that do not want to quit. While you can enjoy this today, give it some more time as this will age for decades.”

98/100 — Falstaff
(2010 Vintage, Tasted: Jan 2023, Drink: 2050)
“Dark ruby, deep core, purple reflections, subtle orange brightening. Tobacco, herbal and spicy, in the underlay sweet wild berryish note, ripe cherries, some liquorice, but also a hint of raspberryish concentrate, candied orange zest and nougat in the background, very attractive bouquet. Deep, juicy and complex, ripe fruit nuances, firm, well-ripened tannins that are both silky and seamless, dark cherries in the finish. Elegant and just about to develop the right drinking maturity. A full-bodied, finely spiced food wine, ideal for game and braised dishes.”

About This Wine

The red wine is made solely from Grenache. The vineyard faces north and contains no galets roulés. Wines are matured in larger-format 450-liter barrels. A small ten-hectare vineyard planted in very poor, sandy soil produces wines with great finesse.

About the Winery

Château Rayas is one of the most prestigious estates in Châteauneuf-du-Pape and has been in the Reynaud family since the 1880s. Owner Emmanuel Reynaud also makes the Château de Fonsalette and Pialade Côtes du Rhône wines at the Rayas winery.
