Overview
Best's Great Western Bin No. 0 Shiraz is one of Australia's most historic and highly regarded Shiraz wines, celebrated for its concentration, elegance and exceptional ageing potential. The 2008 vintage is a beautifully structured expression of Great Western Shiraz, offering intense dark fruit, fragrant spice, finely integrated oak and remarkable length. Awarded 96 points by James Halliday, this distinguished release reflects the character of the estate's historic, low-yielding vineyards.
Vineyard
Bin No. 0 Shiraz is sourced from selected low-yielding blocks of the historic Concongella Vineyard in Great Western, Victoria. Established in 1866, the vineyard contains important 19th- and 20th-century Shiraz plantings that contribute depth, concentration and distinctive regional character.
The mature vines grow in the Great Western region, where powdery loam soils over deep clay subsoil and a favourable growing climate encourage balanced ripening and the development of intense, complex fruit.
Winemaking
Best's Bin No. 0 Shiraz is traditionally produced through meticulous hand selection and sorting of grapes, followed by fermentation in small batches. Careful barrel selection and maturation in the winery's historic underground cellars allow the wine to develop harmony between its concentrated fruit, oak and tannin structure. The estate describes an ageing period of approximately 18 months for Bin No. 0 Shiraz.

Producer
Founded by Henry Best in 1866, Best's Great Western is one of Australia's oldest continuously operating family-owned wineries. The historic Concongella Vineyard became the foundation of the estate's reputation for producing elegant, long-lived wines. Following Henry Best's death, the property was acquired by the Thomson family in 1920, who continue to own and operate the winery.
Bin No. 0 Shiraz is among the estate's most recognised wines, with a heritage stretching back more than a century. Produced from carefully selected Shiraz parcels, it is renowned for combining the richness and complexity of old-vine fruit with the distinctive spice, structure and refinement of Great Western.
