The 2006 Glaetzer Anaperenna is a powerful and impeccably crafted Barossa red, blending Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon in a style that has become synonymous with the Glaetzer name. Ben Glaetzer’s philosophy centres on sourcing exceptional fruit from low-yielding old vines in the northern Barossa, particularly Ebenezer, where deep sandy loam over clay produces wines of richness, intensity, and remarkable longevity. Anaperenna represents one of the estate’s flagship wines — a benchmark for modern, polished Barossa craftsmanship.

The 2006 vintage ranks among the standout seasons of the decade. Warm, dry conditions produced small berries with concentrated colour and flavour, while cool nights retained freshness and balance. The wine opens with deep, resonant aromas of blackberry compote, black cherry, plum, cassis, dark chocolate, licorice, and warm spice. Hints of roasted coffee, cedar, and charcuterie add complexity, reflecting both the quality of the fruit and the well-judged use of fine oak.

On the palate, the 2006 Anaperenna is full-bodied, richly textured, and beautifully layered. Shiraz provides plush dark fruit and velvety richness, while Cabernet contributes structural drive, fine tannins, and aromatic lift. The oak — predominantly high-quality French and some American — is seamlessly integrated, adding notes of vanilla, cocoa, and savoury spice without overwhelming the fruit. The finish is long, powerful, and harmonious, leaving lingering flavours of blackberry, mocha, and spice.

Now approaching two decades of age, this vintage shows impressive evolution. The tannins have softened into a silky frame, while savoury, earthy, and matured notes complement the wine’s remaining fruit intensity. It stands as an excellent example of Anaperenna’s longevity and its ability to mature with grace and complexity.
