19.5/20 — Adrian van Velsen, v-Wine.ch · 2005 Vintage (Tasted May 2017)
"Ruby red, beautiful brilliance. Very intense nose, deep, inviting and noble; distinct notes of Christmas spices, red-fruited with cherries and ripe currants; fresh and smoky with fine toasty aromas and excellent complexity.
Firm on the palate, intense, dense and enormously concentrated, yet extremely precise, juicy and fresh. Very good structure, medium-bodied with significant tannins and perfectly integrated acidity. The finish is of excellent length, ending with spicy notes and ripe cherries. This is world-class, outstandingly crafted, as if chiseled from stone and built for long-term aging. Drink now through 2040."

About This Wine

Côte-Rôtie “La Turque” is one of the flagship wines of Domaine Guigal. The wine originates from Côte Brune with “blonde accents,” combining power with elegance and spicy aromatic character.

The vineyard soils consist of siliceous-calcareous formations with mica schists whose weathering has produced clay soils rich in iron oxides. The average vine age is approximately 25 years, with yields around 35 hl/ha.

Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks using an automatic punch-down system with approximately four weeks of alcoholic fermentation and maceration.

The wine is aged for around 42 months in new oak.
