2002 Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz 750ml

The 2002 Kaesler Old Bastard Shiraz is a rare, mature Barossa Valley Shiraz from one of Kaesler’s most celebrated old-vine vineyards.

Old Bastard is Kaesler’s flagship Shiraz, produced from extremely old vines planted in the late 19th century. These low-yielding vines produce intensely concentrated fruit and represent an important part of the Barossa Valley’s remarkable old-vine heritage.

The 2002 vintage delivers a powerful yet complex expression of mature Barossa Shiraz. Aromas of blackberry, black plum and dark cherry are joined by developed notes of leather, earth, dark chocolate, liquorice, tobacco and savoury spice.

The palate is rich and full-bodied, with concentrated dark fruit complemented by softened mature tannins. Bottle age has brought additional layers of cedar, leather, dried fruit and earthy complexity, leading to a long and warming finish.

Now more than two decades from vintage, this is a fully mature Australian Shiraz intended for drinking rather than extended further cellaring. For a bottle of this age, provenance, fill level and storage history are particularly important.
