Sourced from Brokenwood’s flagship Graveyard Vineyard in the Hunter Valley, this Shiraz reflects the depth and pedigree of one of Australia’s most renowned single-vineyard sites. First planted in the late 1960s, the vineyard consistently delivers wines of structure, elegance, and ageing potential.

Vintage Conditions and Winemaking

The 2002 vintage in the Hunter Valley was cool and long, resulting in lower yields but superb fruit intensity. Hand-picked grapes were fermented in small open fermenters, then matured in French oak barrels, including a portion of new oak, for approximately 18 months to enhance complexity and finesse.

Tasting Profile

Colour: Deep ruby with a garnet rim.

Nose: Intense aromas of black cherry, plum, earth, and dried herbs, layered with cedar, spice, and graphite notes.

Palate: Medium to full-bodied, showing refined fruit concentration with notes of dark berries, savory spice, tobacco, and forest floor. Silky tannins and bright acidity frame a long, savoury finish with excellent balance and integration.

Cellaring Potential

At over two decades old, this vintage continues to show poise and maturity. Ideal drinking is now through 2030, with careful cellaring extending its life further.

Best enjoyed with roast lamb, mushroom risotto, game meats, or mature cheeses. Decanting for an hour enhances its depth and expression.
