96/100 ā Harvey Steiman, Wine Spectator Ā· 2001 Vintage Ā· Tasted: Sep 2005
āOne of Australia's modern classics, Command is a big Shiraz that does not go over the top. Its silky tannins and rich flavors add up to an arresting wine, a seductive Shiraz that oozes with rich cherry, plum, exotic spice and meat flavors that linger against grace notes of chocolate and espresso. Delicious stuff, and it's built to last. Drink now through 2020.ā
95/100 ā Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate #161 Ā· 2001 Vintage Ā· Tasted: Oct 2005
āThe 2001 Shiraz Command exhibits a slightly more roasted character than the 2002 as well as a hint of espresso in the nose, a touch more alcohol, and more elevated tannin. It also possesses tremendous concentration, intensity, and power, yet remains remarkably well-balanced and pure. This 3,000-case cuvee is one of South Australiaās great classics. It should drink well for 15 years.ā
92/100 ā James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion Ā· Published: 11 July 2021
āMedium-bodied; a mix of black fruits, vanilla, spice, sweet earth and chocolate; good overall mouthfeel and balance; fine, silky tannins; three years in oak polishes the wine. Screwcap.ā
85/100 ā Wine & Spirits Magazine Ā· 2001 Vintage Ā· Tasted: Oct 2005
About This Wine
Command is Elderton's single vineyard Shiraz from the Barossa Valley.
Barossa Shiraz is known for delivering ripe fruit flavours centred on cherries and dark plums, layered with licorice and spice while retaining balance and elegance.
The 2001 vintage produced richer and more mouthfilling wines than the relatively crisp 2002 vintage.
Command is regarded as one of Australia's modern classics, combining rich fruit concentration, silky tannins and long cellaring potential.
