96/100 — Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider · 2001 Vintage · Tasted: Feb 2025
"An elegant, refined, medium-bodied Latour relying on finesse to carry its message of cedar, cigar wrappers, flowers and black currants. The mouth feel is soft, enveloping the center of your palate with sweet currants, as it moves to its effortless finish. This is simply fabulous today, and it's going to get even better over the next few years. Drink from 2025-2045."

About This Wine
Château Latour's Grand Vin is produced exclusively from vieilles vignes with an average vine age of approximately 60 years, located within the historic Enclos vineyard.
Gravettes, Sarmentier and Pièce de Château are among the estate's finest plots and contribute to the character and identity of the wine each year.
The heart of the Enclos consistently delivers the depth, elegance and concentration expected of Château Latour's Grand Vin. Cabernet Sauvignon, accounting for more than 90% of the blend, achieves exceptional expression of colour, richness and freshness on this terroir.
The 2001 growing season began with a mild autumn and winter followed by a cool, wet spring. From June onwards, mild and dry conditions supported favourable flowering, while a combination of sunshine, occasional storms and cool September temperatures encouraged gradual ripening.
Harvest commenced on 1 October with Merlot and Petit Verdot and concluded on 13 October with Cabernet Sauvignon.
Classic, distinguished and defined by purity and balance, the 2001 vintage was produced with long-term ageing potential in mind.
