Overview
Noon Reserve Shiraz is a 100% Shiraz from the Borrett family's historic 20 Rows block on the Langhorne Creek flood plain. Planted in 1962, the low-yielding, own-rooted vines grow on deep alluvial clay loam and produce intensely flavoured fruit. The 2000 vintage is now fully mature, with the producer's September 2025 tasting finding it still drinking very well.
Vineyard
The 20 Rows Shiraz block was planted in 1962 on the historic Langhorne Creek flood plain. The vineyard is managed to receive late-winter and early-spring flood water from the Bremer River through a system of channels and weirs, continuing a local viticultural tradition dating to the mid-1800s. The own-rooted vines yield approximately 3β4 tons per acre and grow in deep alluvial clay loam.
Winemaking
Fermentation takes place in small open vats with hand plunging and typically lasts 10β20 days. The wine is then pressed by hand using small manual basket presses and matured for 18 months in small 300-litre French and American oak barrels, with approximately 30β35% new oak. Crushing, fermentation, maturation and bottling are all carried out at Noon Winery.
Producer Tasting Notes
Last noted 24 September 2025
βThe wine was medium-deep in colour, with a malty, tar and molasses aroma that was still fresh. Mature and complex. The palate is soft on entry, with a lovely, rounded mouthfeel and melted tannins. There is a touch of zestiness to the acidity, but the balance is still good. And it's not as deep in flavour and full-bodied as usual but it's still a very pleasant drink, travelling nicely. Well balanced and still drinking very well, especially for the vintage. Frankly, a nice surprise. Opened up further with time in the glass, so worth decanting just prior to serving.β
The producer recommends decanting Reserve Shiraz for at least 30 minutes before serving to help release its aromas and flavours and to leave any sediment behind.
