The 1998 Henschke Abbotts Prayer is a mature Bordeaux-style red from Henschke’s Lenswood Vineyard in the Adelaide Hills.

Made from 86% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc, the wine combines the richness and softness of Merlot with the structure and complexity of Cabernet.

The cool, elevated Lenswood vineyard allows the grapes to ripen slowly while retaining freshness and balance. Henschke rates 1998 as an excellent vintage for Abbotts Prayer.

After more than 25 years of bottle ageing, the wine is now fully mature. Expect aromas and flavours of plum, blackcurrant and dark berries alongside cedar, leather, truffle, dried herbs and gentle spice. The palate is elegant and savoury, with softened tannins and a long, mature finish.

For a wine of this age, storage history and bottle condition are particularly important. Well-cellared bottles are best enjoyed now.
