Overview

The 1994 Penfolds Bin 128 Shiraz is a mature Coonawarra Shiraz from one of Penfolds' classic regional red wine labels. Bin 128 is designed to reflect the cool-climate structure and varietal character of Coonawarra Shiraz, with a more elegant frame and earlier-drinking profile than many of Penfolds' traditional South Australian reds.

Vintage & Winemaking

The 1994 vintage was an excellent year in Coonawarra. This release was made entirely from premium Shiraz fruit harvested at full maturity, then matured for 12 months in French oak barrels. Now mature, it should be assessed with bottle age and provenance in mind.

A well-concentrated wine with blackberry, blueberry and leathery flavours, ripe loose-knit tannins and a chalky dry finish.

Tasting Notes

Medium red in colour. Aromas of black fruit, earth, walnut and meaty complexity are supported by touches of graphite. The palate shows blackberry, blueberry and leather, with ripe loose-knit tannins and a chalky dry finish. Mature and savoury, with buoyant fruit still at the core.

Food Pairing

Pair with duck, game, roast lamb, braised beef, mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses.

Cellaring Potential

The original drinking window has passed, so this bottle is best approached as a mature cellar release for near-term enjoyment. Decant gently and check condition on opening.
