Overview

Grant Burge Meshach is the estate’s flagship Barossa Shiraz, produced from old-vine fruit with an emphasis on power, concentration and longevity. The 1993 vintage is now a fully mature expression, offering the tertiary complexity that comes with more than three decades of bottle age.

Vineyard

Meshach is sourced primarily from the Filsell Vineyard, with additional selections from even older premium Barossa vines. The old-vine fruit is valued for the intensity, depth and structure it contributes to the wine.

Winemaking

The fruit was hand harvested and fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete open fermenters using heading boards to assist extraction. The wine was matured for 18 months in a combination of new and older French oak, ranging from 300-litre vessels to 2500-litre foudres.

Critic Reviews

93/100 — Jeremy Oliver
Tasted January 2003
Drinking window: 2001–2005.

91/100 — Sean Mitchell, Grape Observer Wine Review
“This is an aged, old style Barossa shiraz from Grant Burge and their top Meshach label. The wine is past its peak by a few years… Fully garnet in colour, the 1993 Grant Burge Meshach opens to warm and generous tertiary aromas of warm roasted coffee, coconuts, vanilla and gentle dark fruits… Its finish is long and graceful.”

Producer

Grant Burge’s family roots in the Barossa date to 1865, spanning generations of viticulture and winemaking in the region. Meshach sits at the top of the range and is built around old-vine Barossa Shiraz, particularly fruit from the historic Filsell Vineyard.
