About This Wine

Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz was first made in 1960 and is often referred to as "Baby Grange" because components of the wine are matured in the same barrels that held the previous vintage of Grange.

Created by Max Schubert, Bin 389 combines the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon with the richness of Shiraz and exemplifies Penfolds' approach to balancing fruit and oak.

The 1985 vintage was sourced from Barossa, Clare Valley, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra. A cool to mild growing season was followed by similarly favourable vintage conditions, with late rain delaying picking without affecting fruit quality.

Producer Notes

Colour: Brick red.

Nose: Highly aromatic wine with fresh black cherry, cigar box, mint aromas.

Palate: The palate is grainy textured with cedar, black cherry, herb garden flavours and fine, granular tannins. Not a blockbuster but very enjoyable.
