Roagna Pajé & Pira: An Ode to Barbaresco and Barolo Heritage
Echo RenShare
Discover the elegance of Barbaresco and the power of Barolo through the historic vineyards of Roagna Pajé and Roagna Pira—two of Piedmont’s most revered terroirs, brought to life in the exceptional 2018 vintage.
Roagna Pajé – A Limestone-Rich Barbaresco Vineyard
Located in the heart of the Barbaresco appellation, Pajé has been owned by the Roagna family since 1953. This south-to-southwest-facing vineyard sits on calcareous marl soils with a high concentration of active limestone, contributing to the wine’s signature minerality and finesse. Vines over 50 years old—planted predominantly with Nebbiolo—thrive in this natural amphitheatre, benefiting from a unique microclimate influenced by the nearby Tanaro River valley.
Roagna Pira – A Historic Barolo Cru in Castiglione Falletto
Pira, acquired by Roagna in 1989, is one of Barolo’s oldest and most storied vineyards. Situated in Castiglione Falletto, this southeast-facing site features complex soils of white limestone, grey marl, and blue marl from the Helvetian era. The vineyard spans seven hectares, with old Nebbiolo vines dating back to 1937, all propagated through massal selection. Pira’s unique topography, biodiversity, and protected location make it a prime source for structured, age-worthy Barolo wines.
