Westward x Stomping Ground Small Batch Strong Ale Finish is a limited-release American single malt whiskey created through a collaboration between Oregon's Westward Whiskey and Melbourne's Stomping Ground Brewing Co. Released in May 2026, this exceptional expression marks the first Westward whiskey to undergo maturation in Australia.

Developed by Westward's Miles Munroe and Stomping Ground's Ashur Hall, the project began with a specially brewed Strong Ale infused with Proud Mary coffee at Westward's distillery in Portland, Oregon. After the beer had seasoned the casks, they were transported to Australia and filled with mature Westward single malt whiskey.

The whiskey then underwent an extended 18-month finishing period in these Strong Ale casks under Australia's distinctive climatic conditions, developing an expressive combination of fruit, roasted malt, chocolate and coffee characteristics.

Produced from just three barrels, this small-batch release is bottled at 50% ABV in a 375ml format, with natural colour and without chill filtration. It represents a distinctive meeting of American single malt whiskey craftsmanship and Australian craft brewing innovation.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Sepia.

Nose: Strawberries and cream with marmalade, fresh grassy aromas and walnut.

Palate: Milo-like malt chocolate, juicy berries and lively orange notes.

Finish: Roasted nuts, chocolate and rich dark-roast coffee.

Founded in 2004 in Portland, Oregon, Westward Whiskey is a pioneering American single malt distillery originally established as House Spirits Distillery by former brewer and winemaker Christian Krogstad. Inspired by the Pacific Northwest's thriving craft brewing culture, Westward has developed a distinctive whiskey style combining traditional single malt production with an innovative American approach.

Westward produces its whiskey from 100% Pacific Northwest two-row pale malted barley and ale yeast, using extended fermentation and double pot distillation to develop its characteristically rich and fruit-forward spirit.
