Overview

Seppelt Para Liqueur Aged Tawny No. 124 is a historic Australian fortified wine from the Barossa Valley, presented in its distinctive bell-shaped bottle with a gift box. Part of the celebrated Para Number Series (101–126), this richly matured liqueur tawny reflects Seppelt's longstanding tradition of producing exceptional aged fortified wines.

History

First released in 1953, the wine commonly known as Para Port became one of Australia's most recognisable fortified wines. Early releases carried dates including 1922, 1925, 1927, 1930, 1933, 1939, 1944 and 1947. However, these dates referred to the oldest component of each blend rather than a single vintage.

Following changes to wine labelling standards, Seppelt introduced a series of numbered bottlings from 101 to 126. No. 124 belongs to this historic series, which preceded the introduction of the first 100% single-vintage Para Port, the 1976 vintage, released in 2004.

Winemaking & Maturation

The traditional Para blend is based on Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro, matured in seasoned oak barrels for approximately 28 years. Extended oak maturation contributes to the rich, concentrated and complex character associated with the Para Liqueur Tawny style.
