Overview
Part of Small Wonder's Landscape range, this elegant cool-climate Pinot Noir brings together estate-grown fruit from Tasmania's Tamar and Coal River Valleys. Light in colour yet beautifully expressive, it reveals wild earthy berries, delicate floral aromatics and subtle herbal complexity. Fine fruit expression, glossy minerality and a sleek, refined texture define this poised and sophisticated Tasmanian red.
Vintage
The 2025 growing season was characterised by above-average temperatures and dry conditions, resulting in an early and condensed harvest. Pinot Noir was picked over a two-week period in mid-March, capturing the character of both the Tamar and Coal River Valley vineyards.
Vineyard & Viticulture
Fruit was sourced from Small Wonder's estate vineyards in the Tamar and Coal River Valleys, combining vines aged over 20 years with younger plantings aged over five years. The vineyard selections include clones 114, D5V12, MV6, G8V3, Pommard, 777, 115 and Abel.
The Tamar Valley vineyard is certified organic by Australian Certified Organic (ACO), while the Coal River Valley vineyard is undergoing conversion to organic certification.
Winemaking
Following harvest, the grapes were chilled overnight and sorted into four-tonne open-top fermentation tanks. A three-day cold soak encouraged gentle colour and tannin extraction before the must was warmed and inoculated with yeast.
Fermentation was carefully managed, with the fruit spending 14 days on skins before draining and pressing. Malolactic fermentation took place in oak, followed by 10 months of maturation in French oak barrels, including 10% new oak. The final blend was then assembled and bottled.
Producer Tasting Notes
Gentle colour; bright hue, attractive lightness. Notes of herbal brush and wild earthy berries – floral yet introverted. Neat with glossy minerality and fine laced fruit expression…discretely opulent, ample and yet sublimely sleek. A class act.
