The 2025 By Farr Irrewarra Chardonnay is a finely tuned and mineral-driven cool-climate Chardonnay sourced from the historic Irrewarra Vineyard near Colac in western Victoria. Crafted by By Farr, this wine captures the elegance, restraint, and site transparency that define the Irrewarra vineyard and the meticulous winemaking philosophy of the Farr family.
Located in a cooler, wind-exposed part of Victoria, the Irrewarra Vineyard is planted on volcanic and limestone-influenced soils that naturally produce Chardonnay with vibrant acidity, subtle power, and pronounced mineral tension. The 2025 vintage delivered exceptional growing conditions, allowing for slow ripening and the development of intense flavour detail while preserving freshness and precision.
In the winery, fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before wild fermentation in French oak barrels, including a restrained proportion of new oak. Extended lees maturation contributed texture and complexity, while careful handling preserved purity and site expression.
The wine opens with aromas of white peach, nectarine, lemon curd, and citrus blossom, layered with notes of struck flint, oatmeal, hazelnut, and subtle oak spice. The palate is tightly structured yet beautifully textured, showing crystalline acidity, layered stone fruit, and a long, chalky mineral finish that reflects the vineyard’s cool-climate pedigree.
Still youthful and tightly coiled, the 2025 Irrewarra Chardonnay will reward both early enjoyment with aeration and patient cellaring over the next 8–15+ years, developing further savoury complexity and depth.
A refined and site-expressive Australian Chardonnay that balances texture, tension, and understated power with exceptional precision.
