Overview
A fragrant and finely structured Yarra Valley Cabernet Malbec blend, combining Cabernet Sauvignon’s savoury detail and graceful tannins with the freshness and vibrant acidity of Malbec. Purple florals, raspberry fruit, leafy lift and clove spice come together in an immediately approachable yet cellar-worthy style.
Vineyard
Cabernet Sauvignon was first planted in the Agincourt block in 1995 and is blended with Malbec planted in 1990. The Cabernet component now also incorporates modern clones 412 and WA Cape, while additional Malbec clones continue to be explored.
Winemaking
The fruit was hand harvested. Cabernet Sauvignon was destemmed, berry sorted and crushed into half-tonne open fermenters, with 5% whole bunch fermentation used to add aromatic lift and perfume. Malbec was destemmed into small fermenters and hand plunged twice daily. The wine was matured in French Bordeaux-shaped barrels, including 10% new oak, to support the juicy fruit profile while retaining freshness and immediate drinkability.
Producer Tasting Notes
Fragrant with purple violets and fresh raspberry leaf. A refreshing berry fruit profile melts into and complements the savoury characters. Nettle with its earthiness and a cool leafy lift enhance the savoury clove spice element. Vibrant acidity, a result of the Malbec component, brings an acid crunch to the wine. A wine of wonderful fruit purity, savoury texture and graceful fine tannins.
Cellaring
Crafted to be approachable when young, while retaining the structure to evolve for 5+ years under suitable cellaring conditions.
