Overview

The 2024 Rusden Wines Chookshed Zinfandel is one of the Barossa's more distinctive small-production reds. The wine traces its story to a few old Zinfandel rows planted in the early 1970s, with cuttings later grafted onto an old dry-grown Trebbiano block beside the chook shed, creating some of the oldest Zinfandel vines in the region.

Vintage & Winemaking

Rusden's Chookshed Zinfandel leans into the variety's ripe, expressive character. Some berries shrivel on the vine, giving the wine an Amarone-like richness and dried-fruit intensity, balanced by new oak structure and spice.

Tasting Notes

Prunes, red licorice and cigar box characters lead the nose, typical of fruit that has partially shrivelled on the vine. The palate is generous and full-flavoured, showing dried peach, raspberry, blackberry conserve and wood spice, with new oak helping frame the richness.
