Overview
Lowestoft Jacoben Single Vineyard Pinot Noir is a limited-release Tasmanian wine sourced from a tiny 0.5-hectare vineyard on the eastern side of the lower Derwent River. This cool-climate site produces Pinot Noir of purity and finesse, combining concentrated forest fruit with savoury complexity, mineral freshness and finely integrated French oak.
Vineyard
The Jacoben Vineyard’s cool growing conditions retain natural acidity and support slow flavour development. Small-scale production and selective barrel blending allow the individual character of the site to remain central to the finished wine.
Winemaking
The Pinot Noir was harvested by hand and fermented in two-tonne open-top fermenters with 15% whole-bunch inclusion. The ferment was gently hand-plunged before pressing to tank after malolactic fermentation.
The wine matured for 10 months in large-format French oak, of which 25% was new. Individual barrels were then assessed for the final blend before bottling with minimal additions.
Producer Tasting Notes
Colour: Light crimson colours with ruby hues.
Aroma and Palate: Bursting with rich, plump forest fruits, this dark ruby wine presents heady aromas of cherry, woody herbs and black tea. Finely grained tannins framed by juicy acidy give this wine generous tension and drive.

Sourced from a tiny 0.5ha vineyard on the east side of the lower Derwent River. Deep ruby with aromas of dark cherry and plum fruits with a sheen of wild strawberry and raspberry pip, veiled in exotic spice, dried meats, leaf litter, caraway, roasting game, crushed herbs, judicious nutty oak and citrus blossom and an expression of orange oil. More depth here yet not sacrificing tension and cut. Structured with fine, chalky tannins and a beautiful stony flair on the finish. A cracker from a superb vintage.
