91/100 — Winepilot · 2024 Vintage · Tasted: May 2025
“The use of whole bunches is almost de rigueur among Pinot Noir makers these days. However, it is the precise quantity that is the question. For the Massale, the winemaker chose to include 12% whole bunches in the fermentation in stainless steel and concrete vats. In a cool vintage like 2024, it’s a well-judged amount and it lends an extra fragrant lift to the bouquet with crushed green herbs, leaf and rosehip amongst lively black cherry, cranberry and sour cherry. It’s quite a fresh and undeveloped Pinot with tart red berries and herbals to the fore and tannins pronounced through to the finish.”
91/100 — The Wine Front · 2024 Vintage · Tasted: May 2025
“Delicate and restrained aromas of cherries, dried strawberries and citrus peel. The palate is light-bodied with finely integrated tannins and a plush and juicy mouthfeel. An early-drinking wine with real purity. Drink now. Screw cap.”

About This Wine
The Kooyong vineyard is located on the Mornington Peninsula at Tuerong, on Miocene sedimentary soils. Wines are made from domain grown, handpicked grapes and aim to manifest terroir through the integration of geology, soils, mesoclimates and seasonal conditions.
The 2024 Kooyong Massale is a blend of Pinot Noir from the Tuerong and Balnarring vineyards.
The fruit was gently destemmed to open stainless steel and concrete vats, with 12% whole bunches included. Fermentation occurred spontaneously with ambient yeasts and lasted 16 to 18 days, followed by indigenous malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured for 10 months in French oak barriques (10% new) and puncheons before bottling without fining and with minimal filtration.
Producer Notes
A lively bouquet of red berry aromas, including fresh strawberry, cranberry and red cherry, complemented by soft notes of plum and a touch of orange zest. Intriguing hints of fresh spice from whole bunch fermentation add complexity, while earthy undertones and a trace of oak lend subtle depth. The palate delivers a vibrant expression of flavour, with juicy strawberry and dark cherry taking the spotlight. A rustic tannin structure provides balance and support, enhancing the wine’s fruit-forward profile. Bright, refreshing acidity carries the flavours through to a long finish.
