Overview
The 2024 E.J. McDougall Old Vine Shiraz is a single-parcel McLaren Vale Shiraz from 87-year-old vines in Blewitt Springs. Grown on sandy gravel over red clay, this limited-production release captures the depth of old-vine Shiraz with the finesse and graphite-edged detail associated with the Blewitt Springs sub-region.
Vintage & Winemaking
The fruit was hand-harvested and fermented with partial whole clusters in concrete vats. The wine then spent 11 months in seasoned French foudre, allowing the old-vine fruit, savoury structure and regional mineral character to remain clearly expressed.

Critic Scores & Reviews
97 points - Erin Larkin, Robert Parker Wine Advocate | Review date not provided
Described as an excellent, modern and sophisticated Australian Shiraz, with vibrancy lifting above the density of fruit and notes that speak more of asphalt and graphite than raw power.
Tasting Notes
A concentrated yet refined old-vine Shiraz showing dark fruit, graphite, asphalt, savoury spice and mineral depth. The palate is dense but lifted, with fine structure, freshness and a sophisticated finish.
Food Pairing
Pair with grilled steak, slow-cooked beef, lamb shoulder, venison, rich mushroom dishes or hard aged cheeses.
Cellaring Potential
Enjoy from release for its vibrant fruit and savoury detail, or cellar over the medium to long term as the old-vine structure continues to develop.
