About This Wine

Devotus Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024 was grown from middle-aged vines ranging from 25 to 33 years, including Dijon 667, 777, 114, 115 and Abel clones.

The vines are non-irrigated and farmed using organic and sustainable methods. Undervine weeds are controlled through mechanical cultivation, while Annual Crimson Clover, Malbec Red Clover, Huia White Clover and Black Oats are grown within the vineyard and ploughed back into the soil for organic vine nutrition.

Martinborough experienced an ideal growing season over 2023/2024, with dry conditions from December 2023 through to hand-harvesting in March 2024. The vineyard produced low yields of 1.3 ton/acre for the 2024 vintage.

Hand harvesting was completed on 15 March 2024 at an average sugar level of 23.3°Brix across clones.

After careful sorting, 50% whole bunch fermentation was used. Cold maceration was held at 10°C for 2 days, followed by fermentation with wild yeasts from the vineyard. Total skin contact time was 11 days.

The wine was matured in French oak barrels, including 20% new oak, for 10 months. No fining or filtering was used.

Producer Notes

Flinty and dark fruit aromas on the nose. Rich, round and beastly, with plum and black currant on the palate. Soft tannin. Opens to become more generous and more persistent with time.

Overall style is one of low intervention, a pure expression of the 2024 vintage, of the Martinborough Terrace, and particularly of the vineyard.

Approachable now and can be confidently cellared for at least 15 years to 2040.
