Overview
Domaine Leflaive Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2023 is a Grand Cru Chardonnay from Puligny-Montrachet in Burgundy's Côte de Beaune.
One of the domaine's most prestigious white wines, this release combines Grand Cru pedigree, biodynamic viticulture and the mineral precision that defines Domaine Leflaive.
Vintage & Winemaking
The 2023 vintage was generous in quantity and balanced in quality. A mild winter was followed by cooler conditions at the end of winter, a temperate April, and a cool, rainy May that helped replenish the water table.
Warmer days and cool nights through late spring supported good vine and flower development. Summer brought heat, thunderstorms and rainfall, with wide day-night temperature variation that favoured vine development. Harvest began on 29 August, with picking accelerated from 2 September as heat returned.
The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru vineyard is planted on clay-limestone soil, with vines planted in 1962, 1974, 1979, 1989 and 2021 across 1ha73a. The Chardonnay grapes are biodynamically grown and manually harvested with grape sorting and parcel-by-parcel ripeness monitoring.
The wine underwent long, gentle pneumatic pressing, decanting over 24 hours, then racking into barrels. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations took place in oak casks, followed by 12 months on lees in barrels and 10 months on fine lees in stainless steel tank.
