Extended maturation on lees in oak barrels and stainless steel contributes texture, depth and refinement. Awarded 93 points by Adrian van Velsen, the 2022 vintage offers a distinguished introduction to the celebrated wines of Domaine Leflaive.
Vintage
The 2022 Burgundy vintage delivered outstanding quality and generous yields despite an exceptionally warm growing season. A mild, relatively dry winter was followed by rapid spring growth and several summer heatwaves. Timely rainfall and cooler conditions from mid-August helped the vines complete ripening successfully. Harvest commenced on 25 August 2022, producing grapes of excellent maturity and quality.
Vineyard & Viticulture
The Bourgogne Blanc is sourced from 6.96 hectares of biodynamically cultivated Chardonnay vineyards across three lieux-dits: Les Houlières, Les Parties and La Plante des Champs. The vines grow on classic Burgundian clay-limestone soils, contributing to the wine's distinctive terroir expression.
All grapes are harvested by hand and carefully sorted, with optimal picking dates determined through individual parcel-by-parcel ripeness monitoring.
Winemaking
Following a long, gentle pneumatic pressing, the juice is settled for 24 hours before racking and transfer into oak barrels. Both alcoholic and malolactic fermentations take place in oak casks.
The wine is matured for 12 months on lees in oak barrels, followed by a further 10 months on fine lees in stainless steel tanks. Fining and light filtration are carried out only when necessary, preserving the wine's natural character and texture.
