About This Wine
Vines from Domaine du ChĂąteau de Chassagne-Montrachet on clay-limestone soil.
100% Pinot Noir from the AOC Chassagne-Montrachet Village appellation.
Harvested by hand in openwork crates of 15 kg. The bunches are cooled and 100% destemmed before vatting in wooden vats for two weeks.
Cold pre-fermentation maceration takes place before alcoholic fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Gentle extraction is achieved through alternating manual punch downs and pump overs.
The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 12 months with 25% new barrels, then blended for 6 months in vats before bottling.
Annual production is 13,000 bottles with an ageing potential of about 15 years.
Producer Notes
Ruby red colour with brilliant highlights. Attractive nose of Burlat cherries, with hints of white pepper and graphite. A structured, fruity attack on the palate, with great freshness. A well-balanced wine, still in its youth, to be drunk with roast meats (tasted in 2023).
About the Producer
The Bader-Mimeur family owns and runs 98% of the historical vineyard of Domaine du ChĂąteau de Chassagne-Montrachet, just over 5 hectares along with 3 hectares outside the singular Chateau de Chassagne Montrachet plot, including Lieu Ditâs of En Journoblot & Les Houilleres.
Since the 17th century the Bader-Mimeur family have owned and managed vines in and around the village of Chassagne. The Bader family owned vines in Chassagne whilst the Mimeur family were based in Maranges. Charles became owner of Chateau de Chassagne Montrachet in 1919. When Elise married Charles Bader the following year the Domaine Bader-Mimeur was born.
In 2017, Nathalie Bernard and Sébastien Fossier, sister and brother, took over the estate after their parents and now run the 8-hectare estate together in the vineyard and cellar.
