98/100 — James Suckling · 2021 Vintage · Tasted: Mar 2023
“A beautifully mineral red with impeccable purity. Wet stones, red cherries and a hint of flowers and spice. Really chalky tannins with a bone-dry palate and a long, transparent finish. A combination of power and etherealness, creating perfect harmony. 100% whole bunch. Drink or hold.”
98/100 — Patricio Tapia, Descorchados · 2021 Vintage · Tasted: Jan 2024
“Cool years like 2021 tend to accentuate the fresh and fruity character of the Fortuna Malbec. This vintage offers a lovely layer of tart red fruits, but it also has the floral notes and, indeed, the herbal touches that are characteristic of Gualtallary. The palate is tense and full of tannins that give the textural sensation of chalk as well as energetic and vibrant acidity in a wine that seems to actually crunch in the mouth.”

About This Wine
Fortuna Terrae, meaning “luck of the land,” comes from a distinct parcel within Catena Zapata’s Adrianna Vineyard in Gualtallary, planted on deep, loamy alluvial soils at high altitude.
The freshness derived from these soils and elevation delivers wines of optimal acidity and delicate floral aromatics, with a profile that balances purity, structure and elegance.
About the Producer
Founded in 1902 by Nicola Catena, Catena Zapata is Argentina’s oldest winery still owned by its founding family and a global reference point for high-altitude Malbec from Mendoza.
Today, the estate is led by fourth-generation vintner Dr. Laura Catena, whose work through the Catena Institute of Wine has been instrumental in advancing research into Argentine terroirs, old vines and ungrafted Malbec.
