Overview
Taylor Fladgate Late Bottled Vintage Port is a rich, full-bodied fortified wine from Portugal’s Douro Valley. LBV is matured in wood for longer than classic Vintage Port and bottled ready to drink, combining the depth and concentration of a declared vintage with a more immediately approachable style.
Vintage
The 2020 growing season produced exceptionally low yields and highly concentrated fruit. Significant winter rainfall replenished water reserves before an unusually warm growing season brought early budburst, flowering and veraison. Low yields and favourable water reserves contributed to rapid ripening and fruit of considerable concentration.
Winemaking & Maturation
Late Bottled Vintage Port differs from classic Vintage Port through its extended maturation before bottling. Whereas Vintage Port is typically transferred to bottle after around two years in wood, LBV remains in wood for approximately four to six years, allowing it to mature and settle before release. The resulting wine is ready to drink on release and does not require decanting.
Producer Tasting Notes
Colour
Deep purple with a ruby red rim.
Aroma
Refined and complex, with wild strawberry, cassis, raspberry and plum layered with elegant floral notes, liquorice and rock rose.
Palate
Voluptuous and poised, supported by tense, linear tannins and clean, crisp flavours of damson and plum extending through the long finish. A finely balanced expression with understated finesse.
