94/100 — Falstaff · 2018 Vintage · Tasted: Feb 2021
“Deep dark ruby, opaque core, purple reflections and a faint watery edge. Inviting bouquet with fine spicy-tobacco, blackberry, black cherry and fresh orange zest. Juicy on the palate with red berry fruit, a hint of plum and integrated tannins. There is pleasant freshness and balance and mineral on the finish with pronounced fruit. Already well developed.”

About This Wine
Ségla is the second wine of Château Rauzan-Ségla, produced in a more approachable style than the grand vin.
The 2018 vintage is characterised by its density. Notes of strawberry tobacco, black cherry, liquorice and violets are supported by fresh pink grapefruit nuances. The palate is dense, broad and soft, showing the fruit of perfectly matured grapes.
The blend is composed of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 44% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot.
The harvest took place between 13 September and 11 October 2018. Weather conditions included steady winter rainfall, stormy spring showers, a sunny and dry summer, and a hot, sunny autumn.
Producer Notes
A passionate, spirited character with fruity aromas that will blow you away from the very first sip. This wine has undoubtedly inherited its big brother’s elegance, the trademark of this prestigious wine estate.
About the Producer
Château Rauzan-Ségla is a Second Growth estate in Margaux, classified in the 1855 Classification of Médoc and Graves.
The 70-hectare vineyard is planted predominantly to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot on clay-gravel and sandy-clay gravel soils.
Since its acquisition by Chanel in 1994, quality has improved through plot-by-plot vineyard management, hand harvesting and manual grape selection.
The château was founded in 1661 under the name Domaine de Rauzan by Pierre Desmezures. The estate later came under the control of Catherine de Rauzan, Baroness of Ségla, from whom the property takes its current name.
