Meshach William Burge was Grant great grandfather and was a central figure in establishing the Burge family in the Barossa Valley. This Shiraz named in his honour is sourced from old vines, some nearing 100 years old, and shows aromas and flavours of complex swiss chocolate, savoury spices and red currant. Grant Burge flagship shiraz will reward the patient cellarer with 20 years in the bottle in front of it.
Producer tasting notes: (2018 vintage) "Colour: Intense dark crimson with violet hues. Nose: A strong and compelling bouquet of black pepper, sage, plum, coffee and mocha. Hints of tree bark, pencil shavings and dark chocolate highlight the complexity of this wine. Palate: A wine worth of its Langton's 'Outstanding' classification. This is a bright, vibrant, powerful yet elegant wine, with a strength that is reflective of the old vine blocks it comes from. Wonderfully balanced, with dark chocolate and plum on the mid palate, with hints of aniseed and cinnamon on the end. A long, elegant finish with an acidity line that will ensure this wine will age gracefully." -Ā Grant Burge Wines

Vineyard notes: "The fruit for this wine is handpicked from the Filsell Vineyard, where the vines here are almost 100 years old, and small portions of fruit are also selected from even older premium vines in the Barossa. The age of these vines means Meshach is made from fruit with tremendous power and intensity, especially when allowed to ripen to the desired Baumé of 14°."
Winemaking
100% hand harvested. The wine was fermented in a combination of stainless steel and concrete open fermenters using heading boards, allowing optimal fruit extraction.
Ageing
The wine was aged in a combination of new and old French Oak, ranging in size from 300 to 2500 litre Foudres for 18 months
