Critic tasting note: (2017 vintage) "Bright, dense garnet red. Intense and inviting nose, plums, ripe cherries, saffron and some ginger. Firm and sturdy on the palate, with plenty of grippy tannins, pithy, notes of ripe plums, some lovely earthy notes on the finish." - Falstaff
Vineyard and Origin
Sourced from the oldest vines within the Pajé vineyard in Barbaresco, this wine represents Roagna’s deep commitment to preserving historic vine genetics and site expression. The vines are over 50 years old and deeply rooted in calcareous marl soil, contributing to the wine’s exceptional complexity and structure.
Viticulture and Winemaking
Practicing organic viticulture, Roagna harvests fruit manually at optimal ripeness. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by a long maceration lasting up to 80 days. The wine is then matured in large neutral oak botti for over five years. Bottling is done without fining or filtration to preserve purity and terroir character.
