Overview

The 2016 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir is a certified organic and biodynamic Central Otago Pinot Noir from one of New Zealand's most respected estates. It combines ripe cherry, berry and plum fruit with floral lift, spice, savoury detail and the silky textural depth that has made Burn Cottage highly sought after.

Produced from multiple Pinot Noir clones and rootstocks planted from 2003 onward, the wine reflects Burn Cottage's careful vineyard philosophy and its commitment to complexity through site, soil and block diversity.

Vintage & Winemaking

Each block within the vineyard was fermented separately using a combination of open-top wooden and stainless steel fermenters. Indigenous ferments were nurtured for 17 to 22 days with gentle pump-overs and plunges before pressing and transfer to French barrels.

The wine was aged for 11 months in barrel, with 20-30% new oak, adding subtle structure and polish while preserving the purity and detail of the fruit.

Tasting Notes

Seductive ripe cherry, berry and plum flavours are layered with floral notes, spice, savoury herbs and subtle oak. Medium-bodied yet powerful, the palate is smooth and supple, with fine-grained tannins, earthy detail and a long, persistent finish.

Pair with jamon de pato, grilled lamb cutlets, cep and ricotta ravioli, Chinese roast duck, game birds or mushroom-based dishes.
