Overview
A beautifully mature expression of old-vine Grenache from Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale, this 2013 vintage combines concentrated raspberry and dark berry fruit with liquorice, spice and distinctive chalky tannins. Awarded 95 points by Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate and 94 points by James Halliday, it offers remarkable depth, structure and continued cellaring potential through to 2038.
Vineyard
Sourced from Clarendon Hills' prized single vineyard in Blewitt Springs, planted in the 1940s. The old, dry-grown bush vines produce naturally low yields in deep, free-draining sandy soils interspersed with ironstone, quartz and shale. Situated approximately 230 metres above sea level, the vineyard is renowned for producing intensely perfumed Grenache with concentrated fruit and distinctive mineral character.
Winemaking
Fruit from the low-yielding vines was hand-harvested and fermented using wild yeasts, with a proportion of whole berries retained. The wine was matured for approximately 18 months in seasoned French oak before bottling without fining or filtration, preserving its natural texture and vineyard expression.
