Overview

Randall's Hill is a historic Chris Ringland Shiraz label with its origins in a small vineyard on Flaxman's Valley Road in the Barossa Ranges. Chris Ringland purchased the property in 1994 after discovering its very old Shiraz vines and subsequently undertook an extensive refurbishment of the neglected vineyard.

History

The Randall's Hill label originated with the 1995 vintage. During maturation, Ringland identified two of four barrels as more fruit-forward and less brooding than the others and decided to create a second label. These barrels were bottled after 24 months, marking the birth of Randall's Hill.

The wine was named in honour of Thomas Randall, who purchased the property and planted the vineyard in 1910. Randall's Hill was initially presented as a three-bottle pack. The label was not produced in 1996, and after another release in 1997 it disappeared for a number of years.

A seven-year drought and very low yields prevented its return until 2010, when Shiraz from a younger southern section of the hillside, planted by Ringland in 1999, began to bear fruit and provided the opportunity to reintroduce Randall's Hill.
